Before things get better in Exodus, they get worse. The great promises of God’s deliverance seem to lead only to life becoming more difficult—making bricks without straw. Yet, in these moments of despair, the Lord God helps his people see the true hope of their redemption: “I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God.”

In Exodus 4:24-26, we find one of the most puzzling passages in Exodus. God confronts Moses, threatens him with death, and then relents when Moses’s wife circumcises their son. What is going on here?

The book of Exodus contains some of the most iconic Bible stories—a burning bush, a staff turning into a serpent, the parting of the Red Sea. But, you don’t have to read far in the book of Exodus to realize that you’ve been transported to a distant land. It can be a challenge to put all the pieces of the story together and then to see how they relate to the gospel of Jesus Christ. What is Exodus all about? First and foremost, Exodus is about the God who saves.
